And so the tale begins.....

And so my fuzzy tale begins.......... but where to start? I think I will mix in my back story as this tale goes along and so to start just the basics.

My name is Nicole Mercedes Hartman Gerow. I am 27 years old and I've been sewing since I was six. My Grandmother has sewn the entirety of my life, and she always made holiday dresses for my sister and myself when we were young. I don't know what it was that interested me, but around six I began to sit with her and help make those dresses. I owe my Grandmother everything for teaching me the skills to peruse my passion. At about twelve I began showing an interest in escaping patterns and designing my own clothing. I had my first fashion show my Junior year of college and began my current business about 5 years ago. I now make my meager living sewing faux fur, mostly leggings, but my love is my custom coats.

I have always been a crafter. My biggest challenge is sticking with a project, my mind is always coming up with the new cool idea. But with all these ideas I am constantly challenged to find the cool project that will help pay the bills. I have been with my now husband going on five years and we were married last May 23rd. He is my rock and my largest supporter, both in spirit and monetarily. He pays most the bills while I struggle to simply continue on. There is always guilt associated with someone else allowing you to live the life you want. I have never desired to be that woman who is taken care of. I fight everyday to hold my own in the house. I try to keep my mind not only on my sewing and crafting but also on the house, cooking cleaning and laundry. The household usually looses when push comes to shove and my  brain gets stuck on sewing or a new project.

Today's new project is a wonderful fur topped mushroom pin cousin. So while I really should be working on getting more leggings done, I am trying to find a new way to bring in money. I should have my first batch of mushrooms done tomorrow and will include a link to pictures. Working and talking with my friend Liese we came up with the wonderful idea of in the future making toadstools. Lovely mushroom stools with storage and covered with faux fur. Hoping to work with my husband, Alan, and get a batch made for the next Burning Man.

And now to start doing what I should really be doing, sewing.

Fuzzy Dreams to all!
